Guo-Liang Jiang Melon
After obtaining his
M Sc in plant breeding and genetics from Nanjing Agricultural University
(NAU), where he was also awarded the PhD, Dr. Jiang started his career
as a plant breeder. His work in China focused on wheat improvement and
related research, such as characterization of target traits and breeding
methodology. He also taught plant breeding courses at NAU. During
1997-1998, he performed a six-month research on the leaf rust of barley
at Wageningen University in the Netherlands. In 1999, as a visiting
scholar and research associate, Dr. Jiang joined the wheat breeding
program at Michigan State University, USA. His main responsibilities
were development of new varieties resistant to the disease Fusarium head
blight and QTL analysis of the resistance.
During his twenty-year professional career, Dr. Jiang developed and
released more than ten elite germplasms and/or new varieties, five of
which were registered in the USA. He also authored and co-authored
approximately 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals and more than 20
articles in monographs, books and proceedings. He was awarded several
national prizes/awards by the Chinese governments for his achievements
and contributions.
In 2007, Dr. Jiang joined the United Genetics Seeds Company to take over
the breeding activities of melon and at interim the watermelon program
also. |
